To My Neighbor

I lift you higher,
lift you out
of your body cells
stuffed with anxiety
of your past -
an evil load that smells.

I'll fill each cell
with love and joy
that makes the
angels dance.
You'll glide through earthly
filth and stench -
a spiritual trance.

From your youth filled eyes,
your hands
and feet,
a holy peace shall flow,
so you and I
be filled with grace -
let us be still
and know.

rot mit Herzblut aufgeschrieben,
tiefem Menschenleid zum Ruhm,

Lies sie still in reinem Lichte,
unbeschattet,
frei von Trieben:
Du betrittst ein Heiligtum.

          Rhineland Wedding

"Moselle, in heavenly blue,
I love you," speaks the Rhine.
"Be cradled on my waters
unto the sea, be mine."

The Moselle maiden smiles
arrayed in bridal veil,
gold-dazzled by the sun —
an azure fairy tale.

She glides toward Koblenz bridge,
and there in emerald foam
the mighty groom draws near
to take the Moselle home.

They flow in turbulent love
into the vale of grapes.
His waves rock her to sleep.
The night descends and drapes

the glittering water bed
and cools the vibrant air.
The mermaids in the reed
put fireflies their hair.
