Poem of William HermannsP284
Farewell Intellect
Oh dreams of power, Oh power of dreams! You pull and tear man's fleshly seams, recreate him with atomic ribs, soar up to visit the Apocalypse. Oh soul-filled love, oh love-filled soul! Where will you end? In the black hole a trap, a turnstile to oblivion? More dead than death? A road sign warned — "Armageddon," it read. There was one youth shocked by the sign — cried: "Greed farewell, no longer mine. Farewell scheming intellect — my soul be my only property, and intuition be my profit to set my neighbor free." He heard a voice: "You will not be slain. My son was lost and is found again." William Hermanns [P284] Note: P284. Farewell Intellect; 1950's; in Einstein and the Poet, p. 135 |
