Poem of William HermannsP187
The Curse
What misery to be a human And use my own free will — Not instinct like the beast. Is not my will enslaved By other wills to kill And give their greed a feast! I am a living lab, My brain a science game, Blows mushrooms to the sky, To burn the breath of humans, Their eyes parched as their names. Their skins shrunk powder dry. Vengeance of cosmic law Fills the unborn hope with dread. Makes one day a thousand years For the living and the dead. Are we, the sons of Adam, Forever cursed to rot? When are thousand years a day And conscience our God? William Hermanns [P187] Note: P187. The Curse; San Jose, 1970 |
