Poem of William HermannsP051
Spring
I walk with Spring, the blossom painter, to watch his share his rainbow ware. He visits rockrose and white daisies, tints petal lightly on the air. Draws violets with purple pencil, then climbs into acacia trees to give each twig a yellow feather, perfumes them with a honeyed breeze. The sun puts on a shining helmet and glides on amber rays to earth. I walk with Spring on steps of velvet, watch flowers bloom by magic birth. Its fringe has sparkling billows. Its wood a leafy dome. The swallows ride the spring breeze Back to their island home. William Hermanns [P051] Note: The poem is in Passion and Compassion (1948) on p.54. |
